Marita’s Sweet Potato Pie Company, started twenty-one years ago. The founder, Mr. William H Brown with an associate, began baking sweet potato pies for family, friends and various organizations under the name of Bishop Pies. After a few years his associate moved on. Six years later Mr. Brown fell in love with and married Marita. Needless to say, the name of his pie business changed from Bishop Pies to Marita’s Sweet Potato Pie Company. Of course, the rest is history.
Marita’s Sweet Potato Pie Company has served the community well. People come from all over the bay area. We have customers that come from 100 miles away, to sink their teeth into our Red Velvet Cake and our other baked delicacies. Our creations have been noteworthy and acknowledged by the media as well. Our bakery is a recipient of Channel 5 News, Best of the Bay award November 2004 - Hayward Daily Review Newspaper, December, 2004. - Outreach Award from the Diablo Black Men’s Group in 2006.
